I have used the “reopen last session” facility for a long time. Sudden, for the past few months, when I reopen last session, it opens a blank new document instead of my .pap main text. No new empty document was open before closing Papyrus. I have changed no settings, done no updates and can’t get rid of it. Any advice? Thanks!
Hi!
Is your book listed in the “Last Session” area, or is it just a blank “New Document”?
I’m wondering—if you switch to the “Book Session” tab instead, does your book show up there?
If you switch to “Book Session” and click “Continue Writing,” does it open correctly?
Thank you for your answer! I will check this out as well - but I was talking about having closed Papyrus completely and then, when starting it again, there is a lost of time-sequential docs on the right and the bottom button on the left of this front page says “re-open last session”.
That is where always my text has opened up as it WAS the last session.
No other, new, empty document was open before closing Papyrus. So where does it come from and why does it open as last session WHEN THERE WAS NONE OPEN.
Thanks.
Uh – I was reiterating my question as your answer didn’t resolve it.
Re the video you sent: had have never come across this page. Where is it? When I open Papyrus it looks completely different.
Aha! I think we’ve cracked the mystery—are you still using Papyrus Author instead of the all-new Papyrus 12?
You might find this thread useful: Papyrus 12 is here!
You can start with creating an account here: Papyrus 12
Once you install Papyrus 12, you can pick up right where you left off. Plus, you’ll get to check out all the new features!
Let me know how it goes!
Thank you, that makes sense. But I would rather resolve this issue now, in the version I am using. And yes, I haven’t updated Papyrus for several years. I don’t have the funds for P 12 now, have been working on my book full-time for 5 years and used up all my reserves. Book is finished, just doing revisions. I don’t want to change now as with updates there might be hiccups.
BTW: has the problem of not being easily able to add a second Chapter header in 12? I had that issue with wanting to Head each Chapter with Day 1 etc. and then the chapter.
You can try the following:
- Open Papyrus Author
- Open your book by clicking on it in the “Recent Files” list
- Save your work, close Papyrus Author
- Re-start Papyrus Author, and click the “Continue Session” button
This should take your book as the “last session”, and open it.
Ah yes, I remember this!
Our Papyrus superhero glucose created a template for the structure you wanted back in this thread: Multiple headers for chapter - #12 by glucose
And I still think it’s the best and quickest way to go about adding these special-formatting headings to your book.
You can just go ahead and copy the text over from glucose’s document, and it will bring the heading style over to your book.
Thanks. Re your first answer:
That’s what I’m doing all the time. But as I said, each time I re-open Papyrus, and press lst session, it will open this mysterious blank document which never was open in the first place when I exited Papyrus.
