Dedication and/or acknowledgment page

how do I create these pages without calling them new chapters?

Hi, and welcome to the Community! :sun_with_face:

If you’ve already got a dedication and just want to remove its “Chapter” status in the Table of Contents, here’s how:

  1. Click on the dedication “chapter.”
  2. Open the “Styles” dialog (the A-icon with rulers on the toolbar).
  3. Click New to create a new text style based on the current one—name it something like “Dedication.”
  4. Go to the Enumeration/Table of Contents tab.
  5. Uncheck Title (For table of contents / Navigator).
  6. Click Apply.

Now, your dedication stays as is but won’t show up as a chapter.

Here’s a quick video of the steps:

Let me know how it goes!

I did all that but the page still has “Chapter 1” in its title. I want it to show up in navigator as a chapter but I want the heading of that page to just be titled “Dedication” (without the words “Chapter 1” preceding it). How do I do that?

You can do it more simply than that.

Right click the chapter in the Navigator display. Change “Chapter Numbered” to “Chapter”. (“Change to” option in the drop down list) Job done.

I have attached a sample file if you need it. (Ignore the Scrivener reference, I used the same sample some time ago to work out how to import my old work from a previous program)

The sample has a ToC that lists:
Dedication
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Epilogue
