Export to Word Style problems

When I try to export to .docx format I get a Word file that opens up correctly, but it contains a proliferation of styles not used in the document. Not only that but Heading 1,2,3 titles have ☐☐ inserted into the name, thus not allowing products such as Vellum to properly format its output.

I have given i tht eold College try but I cannot seem to get rid of those ☐☐ in the file name.
The document is 129k words and I do not relish the thought of trying to reaply word styles to the entire body of work.

suggestions or directions appreciated.
