How do stories come to you?

I am endlessly fascinated by the origins of stories ā€“ single scenes, sounds or sensations that inspire a narrative ā€“ like seeds that sprout or grains of sand around which a pearl forms in a shell. :seedling: :shell:

How did the piece you are currently working on come into being?

Was it triggered by a picture, a character, a line from a song? :musical_note:

Are there characters hanging around somewhere in your head waiting for a plot they can experience? Or plot ideas in want of characters that bring them to life? :dancer:

The Muse does all the work, I take dictation and try not to make Her stutter.

Mine generates ideas faster than I could possibly use them. I currently have many published novels, a backlog of 5 yet to be published, one half completed and plans for so many more, which is why Iā€™m switching to this software to streamline the process more.

The less time I spend switching between programs, the more work I can do.
