V12 - How do I change the size of the Names field on Characters entry form?

I have tried editing the entry form for Characters, but my changes don’t work. After changes, the entry form looks the way I want in the editor, but not when I try to edit a character.
My characters often have several names I want to have highlighted in text. Full name, First Name, Nicknames, etc. The entry form displays only one line for the Names field.
I can edit the entry form, expand te field, move the other firleds down to make room, etc., but when I open et form, I still only have a single line for names. They scroll, but I want a larger entry field. Thanks for any help,

Entry Form… now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. A long time. :man_white_haired:

It might sound a bit odd, but the Entry Form is actually a legacy feature from back before Character Sheets existed in their current form.

Character Sheets used to function more like standalone documents in separate tabs. Papyrus still supports them, but they’re not the default way to work with characters anymore.

To edit Character Sheets, you can use the pen icon directly in the Sheet view. :memo:

That said, I don’t think there’s a way to make the Name field larger in Character Sheets. It scrolls, but it won’t expand.

I hope you can work around this! :man_construction_worker: :wrench:

Ah, yes. I tried the edit character sheet pen before trying to edit the form itself. And no, I couldn’t find a way to expand the size of the field. Maybe the devs want to consider it for a future release? It would make using multiple names for a character much easier to review and edit.
Thank you for clarifying for me.

I use multiple names for characters and Papyrus just lists them in the ‘Other Names and Descriptions’ box. They’re all highlighted, with character box popups, too.

The “additional_Names” field in the ‘My Characters’ view (Author menu item) seems to be resizeable. I just separate the extra names with commas. Is this not what you want to do?

That is exactly what I want. My tables don’t look like yours somehow, but it gave me a hint. If I edit the fields by right clicking the colum header in My Characters, I can set the Type Field, or any other, to Data Type: Autolink Names, update te table, and my alternate names can go in the Type field from now on. Thank you. I think this works. I don’t see an additional_Names field the way you do. I can rename teh Types Field to Other Names.

Steps:

  • Right Click My Characters table header.
  • Select “Field Properties of Type”
  • Change field name to “Other_Names”
  • Set DataType to “Auto-link names”
  • Click Update table

@cflynnbooks might have changed this? It’s called ‘Alias’ in my Papyrus.

Is “Additional Names and Descriptions” and new feature of V12? I don’t see that filed on my character sheet started in V11.
Update: Creating a new project in V12, I don’t see that field in the character sheet either.
The manual says, “Simply enter all names and descriptions, which you would like detected and linked, in the “More Names” blank, separating each one with a comma (either with or without a space).”

I don’t see that entry fireld. Don’t see “Alias”

It seems field names stay the same when you import older projects in V12.

I just created a new test project, where the field is labelled ‘Purpose and Motivation.’ However, you can edit this and choose any label you like. For example make it ‘Additional Names,’ and you would have a multi line editing field for those.

The original database I am using was created for the first book of my urban fantasy series, around 4 years ago. It may be that Papyrus has changed the way they are labelled several times since then.

I always copy the old database into the new project/book so I keep the names/descriptions/history consistent in the series.
